Alternatives for Pollensa post may 22.

Alternativa | 29 Maig, 2011 06:53 | facebook.com twitter.com

¨Alternatives for Pollensa¨ are pleased to have doubled their representation in the town hall from one (Pepe Garcia) to two councillors in the recent elections. We have now succeeded in becoming the third party in Pollensa. With 12.25% of total votes cast, Alternatives are behind only the huge Madrid-based PP (24.3%) and the new, Palma-based “Lliga” (15.8%). Our 100% growth is, we feel, a result of our courageous and effective work over the last few years in opposition, our weekly e-mail updates and our leadership, in demanding complete financial transparency of public spending and more participation of citizens.

Eight different parties will now be represented in the Pollensa council. See the list below. Negotiations for the future governing coalition are taking place and will depend on several factors. In our pre-election manifesto, “Alternatives” made clear our conditions for entering into coalition (published document).

(One of these, to encourage transparency and reduce financial corruption, is full and continuing disclosure of the personal wealth of the politicians. Pepe Garcia revealed his financial estate before the elections.)

Official provisonal results.

Party Votes % Votes Councillors

Census (Voters) 10, 704

Abstentions 3.916

White votes 141

Spoiled votes 72

Total participation 63,42%

Why did 1/3 of all voters not bother to vote?
What can politicians do to increase the suffrage ?
What can they not do to increase voter turn out?
They can show people that if they mnake suggestions, they will no longer be ignored but their ideas and complaints will be treated with respect and dignity.
Lets see what measures the PP-Lliga coalition undertake to increase the voter turn out in 2015...
