ORNITHOLOGICAL TOURISM CENTER LA GOLA

At the last plenary the motion we presented together with CiUi and ERAM concerning the re opening of the ornithological tourism center in La Gola was approved,but as in the day of today it is still closed.

The Center was initially opened in 2010 aiming on the ornithological and naturalistic values of our municipality

A pioneering initiative which, among other things made possible to recover “ La Gola” today a green zone that has been visited by ornithologists from all parts of Europe specially from Great Britain already in the 1970.

In 2011 the ORNITHOLOGICAL TOURISM CENTER LA GOLA was visited by 5823 people registered in the season, and 53% of visitors were British. The largest volume of visitors was recorded during spring and autumn ( the tourist off-season) May of 2011 saw the highest number of visitors to the center about 1,400 people. Therefore it is important to open the center this month of May as announced in the press.

But the center has to be opened in the same conditions as before.The company who managed the center last year in addition to open the center maintained a blog and a Facebook profile keeping everyone informed in three languages (Catalan, Spanish and English). the Centre has also informed about the ornithological values of our island contributing to attract a different type of tourism. Activities have been offered to the general public and to schoolchildren in particular. This center has also provided material and information to the International Ornithological Tourism Fair in Extremadura. In addition, the center has done a great job,also educational and has registrated 70 different species of birds in “ La Gola”

We cannot afford to lose this important asset with a small cost if we really want to have a tourism also on low season.You can
